Nice camera~~

not as good as a Hasselblad though LOL

Thing is with those "safety camera's" - they only work when someone speeds and as it's in Larndon where the average speed is just 4.5 mph - you'll have plenty of time to join me in a spot of marketing!!

Just make sure you don't set it up in Stratford - I've a few "tasty" mates who live there - they nick those bloody things and resell them on Peckham Market as Caribbean Holiday Snap Takers!!

Cue JAWS

Good luck in the new job!!!!!

LOL

Messer what are your true feelings on this ???

Everybody has and is entitled to their own opinions. My own opinion is that I feel the cameras are making the roads safer; the road death figures are down in certain areas it may be due to the cameras or new junction layouts (as stated in another thread) or other factors but they are down and at the end of the day the idea is to make the roads safer.

I do agree that some of the cameras are placed in the wrong positions and appear to be used as revenue gathering tools an example to me would be the A12 between the A406 and the A102 the camera sites were all but placed while the road was being built so there couldn?t be any previous collision statistics to warrant the cameras this is only my opinion.

However, in my experience working within the London Safety Camera Partnership the enfaces is placed on the ?KSI? sites the rules are quite strict where the ?live? cameras are used and they are generally adhered to. As a mobile operator we have a bit more freedom but still have to visit sites designated by the ?KSI? ruling.

Whilst working as a relief Traffpol, if a member of the public complained there was a speed problem in their road we would try and get down their road with the hand held laser/muniquip etc. after a few visits the speed problem would normally be sorted, yes we stop people talk to them and find other offences and some drink drivers etc.. we do the same sort of thing with the mobile gatsos only we dont stop the vehicles.

The only difference with the camera is that there is no personal contact, you go by at an excess speed and bingo you?ve got a ticket. You then rant and rave that it?s unfair you were caught, the camera was hidden etc. etc. If I were to stand in the same spot with a hand held and caught someone doing the same speed they wouldn?t or very rarely question getting reported. Why is that? :dunno:

With the fixed sites at least we know where they are and you aren?t going to get some hairy arsed Traffpol jump out on you waving a laser at you at these sites. But you will still get the normal speed enforcement by traffic, while there is a traffic division, and you wont know where they are going to be they can just stop and set up.

This is only my opinion.

KSI are sites where in the past 3 years there have been 2/3 collisions where persons have been killed or seriously injured plus other criteria?

At the end of the day it?s the driver/rider in charge of the vehicle who makes the decision to speed or not don?t blame the gatsos or the Traffpols for enforcing the speed limits.

Thank you Messer for taking the time and trouble to answer my question in such an honest and detailed way.

I do feel that it's sad, when I see our resorses wasted in such a way, when there are so many better things that money could be spent on.

I think when we start targeting bad driving, road deaths will improve ten times faster than targeting speed.

Still when we are all back to having the man with the red flag walking infront of our cars and bikes we will be happy. :bang:

Funny how we dont see trafic where i work.We have had a few deaths for example tottenham high road..ooopps the last one was a shooting.

dont bother putting that speed trap on Bounds green road to catch us going to work either. We had that well sussed.

we need more traffic police not cameras.

Im glad everyone is entitled to their opinion,

mine is that these cameras are wank, and anyone who operates them are lowlife parasites. No amount of bullshit (as above)will change that.

Yep I whole heartedly agree.............. when I started in Traffic there were over 1300 traffpols in the Met now you'd be lucky if the were 500.

Will we be getting advance warning of where you are gathering revenue.

Personaly i would rather see more traffic cops than cameras at least there would be a degree of common sence used.

BTW
If the powers that be want to generate a bid more money why not just stick us up at the side of the road axa 'highway man' oh that right they areman8um :shooter:

i think the low life comment is a bit strong

Bear~~~~~!!

Suspect that your last post is a little over the top mate

We all have different opinions - that's what makes the world go round

We have a few names over here for you Aussies as well, but I'll refrain...............

Now thats a bloody "first"

Whilst I don't like what "safety camera's" stand for I hope Messr that "common sense will prevail" in your professional capacity

Someone wheelieing in a 30 mph zone or speeding past a school during weekdays - deserves have to have their bollox surgically removed

However [   ] I've just been nicked doing 50 in a 40 dual carriageway with nothing else on either side of the road for miles - how fair [or unsafe] is that?

If We're Talking About 'Money-Raisers'.........

Can anybody explain the safety camera that is sited at the end of the M11, London bound ?????

If you don't know the area, let me explain. Approx. a mile before the end of the motorway (70mph limit) a warning sign appears to tell you of a camera and the speed limit drops to 50mph. This is fine if you have your wits about you and see the sign, but the amount of people that come hammering down there.....thinking "it's a motorway.....70mph limit"......and then, Bingo !!!!....camera flashes.....got ya !!!!!!!!

I could understand a camera once the motorway ends and the road becomes the A406.....but why site one on a motorway ??? So I'm told.....that camera is the highest single earner in the UK's complete camera network. No wonder it's been firebombed twice and JCB'ed once !!!!!!!

To quote Bear "My opinion is that these cameras are wank, and anyone who operates them are lowlife parasites"..........Can't agree with that M8. Outside schools, old folks homes, urban housing area's etc. 30mph can be too fast, likewise some of the 40mph limits can be stretching it a bit if it's in a populated area. My gripe is why place 'em on 60 and 70mph limits where the roads are clear with no pedestrians ?????

Just my tuppence worth !!!!!!

:m

This is a subject that for a long time I have been interested in and I have studied both side of the argument at some length, but it always comes to the same conclusion.

The do gooders say speed kills and when asked why? they put the road death statistics under your nose.

All the other government bodies, accident investigators, investigative journalists etc, can only find that in a minority of traffic accidents are caused by excess speed.

I spent a long time last year trawling through all the road safety organisations and government road safety sites I could find, just to see what other things are to blame and the really scary thing is only one of them mentioned any thing other than speed and that was mobiles.

We are all nearly involved in some kind of accident on more or less a daily basis if you drive in this country, how many times has it been because the either of you were speeding ???
Now how many times has it been because some one,
did not see you,
moved lane without indicating,
turned directly left off the roundabout from the inside lane,
indicated left/right on the roundabout and went straight
nearly ran into the back of you
driving on your bumper
cutting the corner
dumping diesel on the road
trying to read
trying to shave
trying to put make up on
trying to shut the kids up
being half asleep/pissed or drugged

We have seen it all, this list could run for pages.

So we have a few police monitoring this thread and I am asking, why is nothing being done to stop bad driving. THE No 1 KILLER
And don't come back with the cop out (no pun) of we have to start somewhere.

Every "real" statistic and every "real person you talk to admits to not concentrating as soon as he/she is DAMMED down.

Messer this is not an attack on you but if all you guy's got together and said sorry but we are not going to do the camera, today we are going to stand next to a roundabout or road junction and nick every person who fails to indicate, then the world would be a safer place.

I am afraid I have to agree with Bear because you do have a choice, ask for a transfer quit what ever it takes, become a beat cop, you are only damaging the polices credibility with the public and saving a miniscule amount of lives compared with the good that could be done.

Or am I just :bang:

Not sure what Messer is messin' at here. If he's dumb enough to kick off a provocative thread like this, accompanied with provocative pictures like that, then he can only expect shite to be slung at him like it has. He can't be surprised at that, surely.

I would think he's probably gauging the reaction of the forum re his new found promotion, for some odd reason....??

The "safety" camera thing obviously doesn't cut any ice with most folk now 'cos of the proportional tiny reduction in the accident figures given the number of cameras - the cash issue now blatantly plain for all to see.... and that is somewhat backed up by the proposed nationwide go-ahead for the bus lane camera scheme following the hugely successful trial in some boroughs of London. Successful to the tune of ?34m for the trial alone!! How many vulnerable members of the public need protection in bus lanes, lol.

Safety...?? No, don't be daft!! Thats a by - product. It's all about money.
