I am thinking about a new seat. I don't do big miles and when touring I don't suffer that much with numb bum up to about 200 miles..then I do. My wife though suffers quite badly..has long coxyx or something so gets sore and numb. She is stuggling and fidgeting after 50 miles.

I like the look of the Viper seat 1200pete does and he reckons its good and I trust him. Anyone bought one? particularly interested in pillion opinion. Am thinking of Viper seat with Gel insert for pillion.

Seems to be a few good comments on Bagster seat recently from Lumpy & FB I think. Then of course theres Corbin. If Viper seat is really good then why pay more for Bagster or Corbin.

Any comments / experiences welcome

I`ve also been thinking about changing my seat. After 4oo miles at the weekend and the whole of Sunday sat on my bike :violin: I suffered terribly with an aching backside. Those of you that know me, know I don`t have much in the way of natural padding(I`m not a bloater!!) so suggestions would be welcome with an idea of how much I can expect to spend %$fan (Just don`t tell HB %$fan %$fan )

It would be a lot cheaper to put some weight on your bum. More fun too! Get HB to take you out to eat more often. Bill. :lick:

Bought a Corbin from Busters ?270:00ish as o.e. gave me arse ache after about an hour an a half. Now it takes me 2hrs to get it!. Although someone told me it takes about a thousand miles to aclimatise to the shape thats on it. We shall see. Looks nice though with a Baglux tank cover on a MATT BLACK BIRD! The proper colour.

Well worth the extra dosh, gel pads front & rear, and just down the road at Coventry. I went up with my old seat and exchanged it for the new one :lick:

Viper review

I bought a viper from Pete last year before my tour of France. Before I purchased, Pete was kind enough to lend me a Corbin for comparison. I found the Corbin superb on the front but my pillion complained of a lack of room. At the time I still had my Suzuki RF900 with Corbin fitted and when I measured it I discovered that the pillion perch on the RF Corbin was an inch or two longer than the pillion on the Blackbird Corbin. When I placed them side by side the two seats were near identical in length.

The viper ( and other aftermarket Bird seats I saw at the time) seemed to copy the Corbin and were therefore a tad short on the pillion area. I decided to order a Viper with a stretched pillion perch to match the RF900 Corbin ( approx 11.5 inches of pillion room). I also asked for an inch on the height too as I'm pretty lanky.

When the seat arrived I was able to do a direct comparison against the Corbin that I'd had fitted for a few weeks before. The extra room on the pillion helped with the pillion feeling less like they were having to hold themsleves away from me. I think 4000 miles in 3 weeks is a fair test ( 670 in one day). I will admit that on the first couple of hundred miles my muscles were aching and I felt that the Corbin had more support. Since then it's been absolutely fine.

I love Corbins I must say but I found the dimensions of the Blackbird one too focussed on the rider at the expense of the pillion. The Viper is lighter and works fine for me. The fact that the service from Pete is always above and beyond anything you could reasonably expect is a real bonus too.

Hope that helps.
