Iv been offered a TL 1000, S reg, 20,000 miles & tested till June for ?1440.
I have only seen a photo of it so far (I would look at it in flesh before buying)
but it looks good and in the best colour.
Iv always fancied one of these, for a second bike.
What you think, is it a good price :dunno: :dunno: :h it sounds good to me.

Oooooo....... it's a bit of an animal!

Didn't have a very good reputation at one time. Isn't that why Suzuki discontinued them? cuz of handling probs?

I think it's Shakey Byrne who had trouble getting one of those around the corners in one of those video's - can't remember which one now.

At that price and if it looks okay, buy it. If it does handle a bit iffy Maxton do a complete package to get rid of the damper/spring abortion. Decent set of cans on and they sound superb!

TL 1000

Thought these were called the widow maker because of the tendancy to tank slap,, real bad handling but a great engine,,, fit a damper to improve the front end stability. not a bad price to.

Have the frame checked by a Suzuki agent, they can crack. I know of 2 people who's TL's have cracked the frame.

Is it a TLS or a TLR .. for an S reg that is cheap for either one ..so make sure its legit
a lot of the jurno crap seems to have sunk in here... both theTL 's are an awesome bike especially if you like twins.
The rotory damper tho is not ideal especially if your a lighter rider but put an aftermarket shock on and they are great bikes..The frames that cracked were on the S at the rear shock mounting lug.. after market shock fitted. no more cracks.. no probs on the R model tho

have a very big cult following a bit like the bird has, with loads of good info on them..:yo::p

Still looks good to me

BUT Dawn dont like it and as we do 99.9% of us biking together, fair enough.
It's not that she's not happy with the seat "she'd have another Blade tomorrow" she just thinks it's dated.
As you can see it's come back to me as a second chance offer on ebay "never thought it would go for that though" alarm bells ringing :dunno:
Im still tempted to go for it behind her back :lick:

I,m sure Iv still got a bit of credit on me card

Is the Busa that has the suspect headstock.. Dunno what the present tally is but up until 2 years ago there were 4 that I knew of personally and several reported ( but as I never saw them I cannot be 100% on them.. ) Of the 4 Busa's I saw I actually witnessed one fall in half.. On a ride out,, smooth straight road.. the bike suddenly sort of went down on its haunches and that was that.. The whole headstock had come away... As luck would have it the rider actually managed to bring to a halt upright and no one was hurt in the incident..

What is disconcerting is that no where have I ever seen this reported..

John, It looks like the seller has just joined ebay to sell the bike, click on 'ask seller a question' and see if you can have a look at the bike before agreeing to anything.

Never heard of the TL going at the headstock but I suppose there are allways exceptions .. was only the S that had cracking problems.. the R is solid ..
Jaws I thought that it was the Busa subframes and triumph headstocks..errmm I think lol:h

Tell a lie a couple have been reported to have airline cracks in the headstocks come to think of it.. but they were found to be production line faults not suspension related.. :dunno: (TL's I mean )

Suzook will still change the frame on them if you have one thats gone. no matter what year it is.. tue.. you have to make a bit of fuss but they are still replacing them... but like I say an aftermarket shock on the S and its problem solved with out getting into it tooooo deep lol..

Very sportbike position tho Silver, if you are thinking of using it for two up..

ie pillion up in the air sat on a pad .. R1 , blade esc..

As youve probably gathered I have a TLS .. had it from new in 97 and still like to do the odd trackday on it :yo:

got some pics somwhere.. I will post them up..

Hope its a good deal Silver.. you will enjoy it mate.. it will bring out the hooligan in you :}

JAWS, loads of bikes suffer wanky frames.. The Yamahahaha TRX 850 was prone to cracking too AND a hidden gem was the late 90's / early 2000's model GSXR 750.. My brother had one in his shop which he was prepping for the IOM TT 2 yrs ago. The bike had been bought by a customer of his and was only 16 months old and when the fairing was taken off we found 2 LARGE hairline cracks in the frame spars where they go around the engine.. pretty sobering to see considering the bikes intended destination.
I think a lot depends upon abuse from wheelies or flaws in the material,, casting weakness caused by air pockets rather than poor design.

As for the TL1000S,, my mate has a silver one and he's 6'4".........a hugggge black man from Birmingham, he's done many many 1000's of miles on it without any problems what so ever. I believe the handling problem was down to the rear end being too firm thus being un damped for the lighter rider causing it to spit riders off.

Honda too suffer from handling problems, the New Pan Euro ST1300 has been/is being withdrawn from Police use due to the poor handling and causing the death of a police rider.. The findings so far are showing frame weakness being the cause, making the bike flex which then becomes a harmonic tank slap.

I'd be buying it for ?1400 quid if its legit... :yo:

In a nutshell from Rhino.. :yo:

just another little snippet that might be of influence.. they are a tall bike, so if your are a tad on the short side etc..

Interesting theory about the st1300 frames as well. my personal opinion about the TLS is the frames are are too weak for the size / power of the bike.. (hence the TLR being over engineered and a tad lardy.) which causes them to flex when pushed..
The trellis frame on the S looks good and solid but it is in fact hollow it isnt even a full tube , quarter moon shape if you get my drift.. next time you see one, feel round the back of the frame .. you'll be shocked..
limits are waayy above the average rider tho and only found on the track, so dont let that put you off John..
The good things about them, easily outway the bad mate

heres me at Caddy a few summers back man8um
