Square tyres

I thought I'd better post this before Fat Bert and Chunky Monkey start taking the piss. They both saw my tyre before and after and seemed surprised that it worked.
When I did the rideout on the welsh weekend for some strange reason my rear tyre went Square. We were all riding at a fairly brisk pace admittedly nothing heroic but still not hanging around, I couldnt understand it. Also being rather skint at the moment I couldnt afford to put a new one on when this still has at least 1/2 K left on it. The main problem is that the bike is handling like a dog. Last night I got to thinking how I could rescue the thing so I tried spinning the rear wheel in second with a sheet of coarse sand paper against it. That did nothing so next I tried a very coarse carborundum wheel , still no joy . So I tried a Surform (a sort of file thet works like a potato peeler) and it worked a treat. It took about 10 mins and I now have a tyre that is the right shape and goes round corners like a good un and should be good for another 2K.

Its one way of getting rid of chicken strips.

To be honest HB you want your head testing...
messing about with wheels or chains whilst the engine is running in gear is the surest way of losing fingers, hands or arms..

Your a complete idiot

LOL

what HB failed to mention was that this "operation" was performed on an Avon 46 Tractor tyre with more rubber on the treads that John Deere could manage

Wouldn't recommend it on an 020

Jury's still out on this side

Next time HB try more bends rather than just the Brummie straights!!

Actually this method dates back to the wild west, the Wheelwrights used to use it on the wheels of the covered wagons after they had been knocked out of shape going over rough terrain.....

But they were made of wood.

stan the man

you are not capable
my old man tried to re-cut the line that goes down the centre of the tyre with a stanley knife, just to make it last a while longer..back in the 1970's(was an avon, but can't remember which DOH )until it went........bang!!!!!!!!!!! i would have laughed, but the tyre was on my yam U.S.custom,so it didn't really last another mile did it :B :B

Thanks for the kind words punchy it does just so happen that seing as I am a musician I need my hands probbably more than most so I am carefull. I think that there are some on here who are arn't safe with tools at any time but what I did was thought out with care and it worked and I got no closer to the chain or tyre than your foot is all the time you are riding.

Silverone no it isnt a wind up during the welsh run my rear tyre just went square it was fine before, so the only thing I can think of is there must have a section of soft compound going round the tyre and it just went in a couple of hundred miles It also sloped to the nearside as if I had been riding on a steep negative camber.
