When were you last stopped by a traffic cop?????????

My last stop (officially) was in mmmmmmmmmmmmm errrrrrr about 1998 when i was stopped by a cop in a Range Rover on the M40 because my cycle rack on the back of my 2.8 Capri was a tad loose.. That stop prevented an accident, a camera couldn't have done that.
There a very very few Traffic cops in Manchester now and all the shit knows it, the bike cops are forced to group up and carry out 'ANPR' checks (Automatic Number Plate Recognition).. These checks are for no tax / insurance etc and may pick up the odd stolen. The Traffic cop armed with a wealth of knowledge is fast becoming a distant thing.
There was a speed camera errected in the town where i live following a fatal involving a child (14yrs) back in the late 80's, a guy who featured on 'Used car Heaven' on M&M killed the kid in his 1980 Corvette after the kid was seen to be playing 'chicken' across the road. Poor Pete had nowhere to go as the lad ran out but people pointed their finger at him as he was the driver, the news at the time highlighted the fact that this kid was killed by a 'Hugely powerfull 5.7 litre American car capable of 150 mph'....big deal, it was infact pulling past a stationary bus and was going less than 30 mph, the lad was killed because he tripped and fell under the HUGE 'General Grabber' tyres (with white lettering)... Anyway its BOLLOX (again) that this camera should have been installed to catch speeding cars when it wasn't speed that killed him,, it was his dumb ass self, its Peter P i feel for. %$fan

(I use the word 'victim' deliberately, as I believe that the whole system is legalised robbery as your basic and fundamental right of silence and innocent until proven guilty has been removed [among other things which include bullying as well as blatant lying]).

Many good points cruser but I'm afraid our rights to silence and innocence until proven guilty were removed ten years ago with the criminal justice act.

On the radio on the way into work this morning they were going on about the increase in drink driving and the majority of this is due to younger drivers. I believe the speed cameras are to blame for this two fold.

1 a speed camera is not going to spot you driving down the motorway at dangerously slow speeds and breathalise you.8l1nd

2. the younger generation along with many of the older generation is losing all respect for the law. When it is seen to be nothing more than another way of levying tax and denying our civil liberties as per the speed cameras and criminal justice act. The result of this is people who would have otherwise been completely law abiding are now questioning everything they are being told. This unfortunatley results in the likes of increased drink driving.

I agree fully, But it's not just the youngsters who have lost respect for the law. :bang: I have a associate who in his mid-thirties has begun driving like a tosser and drink driving. :bang: I've argued with him about this time and time again, his justification is that he's gonna lose his licence anyway, having accumilated nine points in the last eight months. Six for 2 x less than 40mph in a thirty and three for doing 92mph on a motorway at 4am in a 1 year old Jag (company car) which is more than able to cruise safely at that speed. Going back to last year, he would never have even considered drink driving. Whilst I think that he's a twat for DD'ing, I can see his point i.e. what's the point of bothering to (predominantly) abide by the law if your gonna get fucked anyway.

The worst of it is that the punishment is disproportional to the crime :B You are likely to get into more shit by breaking the speed limit by 20% than you are for breaking into and stealing a car - Where's the justice ?
