Anyone used it? I got a bottle from Halfords as my CBR 400 RR is ticking over a bit rough and probably needs the carbs cleaned as it has only been run a few times in the last four years and not at all in the last year. as it talks about adding the contents to up to 12 gallons I was thinking about putting half in the CBR400 and the other half in my bbird. Anyone got any thoughts?

Although I have never used the stuff my self Bill, I am sure someone on here used it yonks ago.. In fact it may have even been before the schism all those years ago.. The report was good though..
I would not put too much in as if you add too much your valves etc may not like it up em ! ( not that I have a clue as to what the stuff is and for all I know you might be able to run a bike on the gear without issue ! :p )

Bill it's brilliant stuff. I used to put it in my cars years ago. It has a space age DRY lubricant that was developed for the moon landings called Pollytetrofluroethelene or PTFE for short. The fuel additive is great for 2strokes as well ,but dont use the engine gearbox stuff if you have a wet clutch like in your 'Bird' it will make make it slip badly all the time.
Just a small word of warning when you put it in and start it up do it outside and make sure the missis hasnt got any washing out coz it might smoke a bit (BIG UNDERSTATEMENT).

Thanks guys I'll give it a go on the 400 first. I think ptfe may be a bit older than the space age Hornblower! I remember being taught in the early 1960s that it was carcinogenic and should not be cut or filed without wearing special safety equipment... probably a condom over one's head.LOL. As to the warning...many thanks. I remember in the dim and distant past pouring hydraulic oil in through the carbs of a running engine which produced the same effect. God help you if you let the engine stall.

In the good old bad old days of leaded fuel and lo comp car engines, it was almost the recognised way to do a FOOKIN quick decoke
Table spoon of brake fluid straigh into the carb..

Method:

Remove air filter
Get mate to rev engine 2/3rds up its rev range.
Stuff in brake fluid
engine dies back
engine coughs.
engine picks back up
street/road/garage block dissapears in thick dense white smoke.

Job done !

Oh, and if it has got PTFE in it you really do not wanna go OTT with it Bill.
Years ago I put extra 2 stroke oil in my premix cos I thought it was the best thing to do.. that was until I siezed a couple of engines..
Took advise and it was simple.. the more oil the less petrol.. the weaker the mixture.
the same would go for the Slick 50 mix.. you will weaken the mixture slightly.. but put too much in and it could make a real a def. difference !

Used it on a mark 3 cortina years ago, oil light came on, Ithought no problem slick 50 in side should be ok. 3 miles down the road one siezed engine, imho would'nt bother just use good quality oil.
:bang: just noticed the title, ooppss mine was the engine additive. In my defence I've just got up from a night shift. c7u8

there have been reports of it cloging oil filters ,they recomend you change oil and filter when you use slick 50, used it on the car ,used it on two strokes never used the fuel additive though

I've just put a tablespoonful of two stroke oil in my 'Birds tank.

Read somewhere that it was good for dissolving crud deposited in carburreters.
It's running much more smoothly now

Are we confusing the Slick 50 with Redex, I can remember using redex on my old cars and bikes
1 remove spark plugs
2 couple of drops of redex
3 block holes with rags
4 leave overnight
5 turn engine over
6 remove rags
7 replace plugs
8 fire her up
9 watch the lovely clouds of smoke

Sorry to be blunt but you're wasting your money, and probably interfering with the additive package balance of the oil you're using. Slick has been around a long time and was certainly beneficial when additive packages were less sophisticated. This is not the case now.

PTFE is effectively another name for Teflon and is more marketing hype than performance-related relative to modern oils. It's also the white anti-friction tape that you buy to run onto the thread of water tap spigots so you might try feeding a few metres through the oil filler hole.
