The 'Skype Me' images in people's signatures are 'CallTo' links..........if you have a broadband connection and have downloaded Skype from www.skype.com clicking on these will initiate a voice call to them using your broadband connection. (VoIP - voice over IP).

This is of course free, and you can call anybody anywhere in the world as long as they have a PC and have downloaded Skype. I've used it for a long while now as a means of talking to friends abroad, and also as a great means of quickly swapping large files and chatting IM style.

You can also call regular phone numbers very very cheaply by buying credit on a SkypeOut account. I call Spain at 0.02 of a Euro from the PC.

Well worth a play - I mean if you're paying for a broadband connection why not maximise it..........

I reckon Sam deserves a medal for bringing this to everyones attention.. it has saved me an absolute fortune and has allowed me to keep in voice contact with friends who moved abroad ages ago.. Sure you can email, but emails tend to sort of fade away and become less frequent fter a while.. speaking to folk is just so much better w;;v

one question...............

does Skype use any download allowance. What I mean is I am with BT and am on the 1gb monthly and I have nearly used it now for July!!!!!! Guess who will be moving up a band!!!

Cheek though isnt it. First level 1gb for ?15.99, next level 15gb for ?22.99, hell of a jump GB wise. Wish I had not gone with BT :B Oh well, when I get out of Dereks place I shall leave that broadband with him and get someone else for my new place.................................when........................ :dunno: :B

That's because they put a limit on you to encourage you to pay more.

I know people slag off AOL but it has no download limits and I get 2Mbit for 29.99 a month.

Interesting question about wether or not a Skype call uses up any of your download limit.

Have to agree

that I am not too impressed with BT at present. When I lost my last job I had to cancel the already ordered Bt broadband plus phone. So I transferred the broadband (due to contract) to dereks address. I had the phone disconnected too. (the phone was connected incidentally by my employer in my name, and he payed for that fee.)

However, had a look at my online bill today for Dereks address as I am paying it. To find that they are still billing me for broadband and phone at the old address!!!!!!!!!!!! My bill???

?402........................guess who is phoning BT first thing!!!!

I left that address on the 14th of May, phone was disconnected that day at 4pm (I checked) Broadband started here (dereks) on the 29th May.

update: phoned bt, they have cocked up to the tune of ?200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
