Monitor...

Hi Rob.

I have supplied numerous TFT monitors to friends and family, all badged with various and different names.

I reckon its fair to say that they are all pretty similar in use.... Our main TFT panel is a Philips unit which cost ?350  , yet the kids machines use unbranded ones that cost me 150 quid :yo: . The difference is so small, you cant really tell.

TFT monitors are GREAT for browsing the intertwerp, kids homework, word proc. Etc. but generally less good for things like 1st person shooter games and really fast-moving graphics. The response time can cause lag on fast graphics, and a lower contrast ratio makes shadows appear gloomy, so a baddie can hide there an you wont see him!! c7u8

One other thing Rob, The advert says 12ms response time in the blurb, but says 20 ms in the title?? :dunno: . 12ms = not bad, 20 = not so good.

Depends what your going to do with it?? Like abbeytec said the question is the responce time. If it's too slow like 20ms and you play games you can get ghosting ie in a foot ball game the ball will leave a trail. It's would be worth checking it out with them first.

I just bought another 17" TFT monitor. This time I got a branded "Benq" with no dead pixels, etc. The picture looks just like the unbranded Novatech model next to it. The discounted Philips I bought a few months back has one bright pixel, but I knew of this before I bought it, hence the price.
I'd say the only thing you get for expensive monitors is a guarantee of no dead pixels.

I thought pixels lived forever, just like fairies.
