Needed a few parts for my old (2000) Merc SLK, the main dealer was WAY cheaper than 2nd hand parts sold on eBay. Labour charges were astronomical though, but I did my own spannering so didn't care that much.
Got a quote for a major service on my Jag when I bought it, over £1k from main dealer but my local independent specialist wanted £500. Now need a new battery for which the ECU needs a reset, something to do with a fancy charging system that needs to be told a new battery has been fitted. Main dealer is far less expensive than the independent specialist.
