Long years ago brother's friend, a woman, bought a used Fiat 125 sport.
I saw it outside his house a few days later with large pool of black oil under it. Never heard what happened.

Owner of garage near other brother showed him sump of car with this jelly mass at the bottom. Engine siezed.
The woman who owned it lived down the country and always got the homeplace garage to service car - to be sure of good job:eek:

Main stealers put the work experience lad to work at full rate and if there’s a problem then they can gloss over it and still make a huge margin. Your local indie needs to get repeat business by being able to resolve issues without spending large amounts of customers money.

on a side note , my mate as part of his mix of hypercar, has 2 McLarens both of which are currently away being serviced, but not at McLaren main stealers as they don’t employ skilled enough technicians. Where are the skilled technicians? They are the specialists that the owners will only use. Apparently McLarens aren’t a very ideal useable hypercar compared to Porsche, Lambo, Ferrari et al. very problematic.

Oil service light came on five months before service was due ?, took it to an
Independent for the oil service and was told that the oil hadn’t been changed
for a very long time looking at the condition of it, car has been main dealer serviced
from new.
Needless to say it s not going to a main dealer again.

The difficulty I have with stuff like this is that there is no way of corroborating if it is genuine or not. No doubt many on here got bombarded with adverts in their face book feed and almost invariably the first comment will be along the lines of ‘I had mine delivered yesterday, absolutely amazing product and fantastic value’. Now call me cynical….

We have a local odd job man who is forever posting ‘this is what I did yesterday’ with amazing photos. In reality he is a bodger.

For what it’s worth I have been taking my Bavarian Magnificent Wundermachines to a main dealer for years with zero complaints.

Yes but you were stupid enough to buy into the BMW rip off to start with so you will believe anything they tell you, “why is there black smoke coming from my car?” “Oh, that’s a new feature we’ve added, should charge you £1000 for it but it’s special offer to you, £500” “oh, ok, brilliant”

I can only go by my own experience. I use a main dealer to service my beautiful oil burning BMW eater and have never had a single problem. I have no idea what they do or if the oil actually does get changed but I've never had a reason to doubt them. It gets delivered back with the service lights out and nice and clean, albeit with a large bill.

The reality is that my local garage just can't do the work. At the last visit they did a software upgrade as part of the service which a small independent garage can't do.

I was very interested last week when the local primary school contacted me to say that if I got a Duster they could service it for me at playtime.

Jealousy is an always a good indicator of what you covet:sisi1.

When I had my magnificent Swedish Barge S80 I had a period when the engine warning/emissions light kept coming on. I took it to an independent Volvo specialist who diagnosed that the throttle body needed cleaning out which they did. Two hundred yards up the road the warning light came on again. They had it in a further two or three times and failed to resolve the issue.

I took it to a main dealer and without an appointment within five minutes they diagnosed a failed lambda sensor. They recommended that if I was happy to replace it myself that I do so and gave me the AC Delco part number. The same part in a Volvo box was getting on for £300. The same part in an AC Delco box cost me about £80. They charged me £20 for plugging in their diagnostic tool.

My son’s cars were well looked after by a local independent while he lived at home.

You mistake common sense for jealousy & like a typical BMW owner you think everybody who isn’t stupid enough to buy a BMW craves one, if I wanted one I’d buy one but I’d rather not waste my hard earned.

equally I chose how to spend my hard earned how I want (subject to Mrs B approval of course), not sure why that makes me ‘stupid’?

There are at least three stupid people on this forum by your logic.

Stupid as in more money than sense, not sure the others bought brand new except Pow-Lo but we already know his sense is directed on a certain part of female anatomy, your money your choice my money my choice, I choose to buy land which increases in value with little or no maintenance costs, an ex colleague bought a brand new BMW & was bragging about it, we bought our first field for £15,000, that was 15 years ago, we have spent around £10,000 on the field in that time, fences/stables/shelters/water etc, the field is now worth around £120,000 (a lot more if we get planning permission) wonder what his BMW is worth now

I’m not going down the ‘oooh look at what I’ve got’ route Derek, totally classless .

I spend my money as I choose.

If you think I spend it stupidly that’s your prerogative, just think it’s a bit rude calling it out on a forum.

Andy, the forum isn’t real life, don’t go all sensitive, as I said “your money, your business” if you want to lose several thousand pounds in a short space of time that is up to you in my opinion that is a complete waste of money, certainly not worth falling out over.

That's hardly a fair or reasonable delineator. If I had 5p in my pocket, I'd have more money than sense. And yes, guilty as charged, what little sense I have is indeed directed at boobies :sisi1

I popped into my local Merc commercial dealership today to ask a couple of questions, when is first service due? The answer, 30,000 miles or 2 years but the vehicle will tell me when. So that’ll be 2 years then. But remember the 9g auto has its gearbox oil changed at the same time - that’ll be a £700 service. But it isn’t changed again for many more years (more than I’ll have driving it).
Oh, and at 7.4m long and 3m high it is too big to fit in their workshop, so I will need to use the truck dealer just outside town.

Perhaps I could get it done in Germany?
