The wife has just passed her CBT and I bought her a low bike Kawasaki eliminator 125 went to the local motorists shop for L plates and the guy in there said you only need them on the rear is this correct ? I have seen quite a few bikes/peds with out front L plates but I thought you needed them front and rear

No legal requirement as such other than it must be higher that 12" ( from memory ) off the ground and be clearly visible from the front..

L plates must be 7 inches square (the size when new) and they must be clearly displayed to the front and rear of the machine, so no specific requirements as to where they should be mounted, just clearly visible.

If they are trimmed down from the standard size, or they are not clearly visible or they are missing then it is a ?60 fine and 3 points for each L plate ofence!
