Just had me water bill through from the 21/07 to present (ish) day. ?128 !!! For two months with only me and the missus in the house.... what the fu*k??c7u8

Anyway, has anyone else had a water bill that high or is Three Valleys Water taking the piss? I have called in to complain and they are looking into it. I hope the bloody water meter is leaking and its their fault cos it would be cheaper to buy bottled water at this rate.

Is it an estimate based on your previous water rates?

There is me, Mrs and "almost 16" son in our house. We wash up in the sink (no dishwasher), shower almost every day and launder most weekends. I used less than 100 cubic metres last year and am now paying about 15 quid a month instead of 40

Hot tub = Leccy Bill =

Codbasher - we did warn you that whatever it is they tell you, it's a fib cos you will use more.

Still we have saved loads on chemicals and water this year, with getting the chlorine from a swimming pool place instead of a spa place, this is going to sound disgusting but our water was last changed in April; we shock-dosed it before we went on hols in August and turned the whole thing off confidently expecting it to be bright green and smelly when we came back. No! - it just smelled of chlorine and was as clear as a bell and we haven't changed it yet. (This is very helpful as our water IS metered)

I think 95% of it is being obsessive about cleaning the filter and the other 5% is keeping the grandkids out of it because whatever you say, they trail across the garden without their shoes on and gaily leap back in with whatever happens to have stuck to their feet, then proceed to displace several gallons of water every 5 minutes. We haven't banned them now, you understand - our daughter & son-in-law invested in their own tub, so it's just that ours is not now the novelty it once was!

I am keeping fairly quiet on the water bill, our annual reading is due any time now, the last one was taken just after the tub was first filled so they based the year on that useage, so we have paid a lot this year (?14-odd a month), which we expect (hope!) will now reduce. My friend at work has three adults at home taking daily showers/baths, a washing m/c but no dishwasher, and pays about ?110 a year. Prior to metering we each paid about the same water rates, around ?200 a year!! - so it's still cheaper anyway.

water meter wouldn't do in our gaff, :bang: one twelve year old boy, doesn't know when to wash, and when he is told , doesn't know how to fill a sink or turn a tap off!! hot or cold!! 3 year old has to have enough water in the bath to float a battleship on, and a "mother" that lets them get away with it!!
me!! I shower for thirty seconds once a fortnight whether or not I need to!!

Apparently my new house's last occupants were always defaulting on their bills (1st day we were in the bailiffs came round for them!!) so i'm hoping that one of their bills is mixed up with ours. Good advice about the dishwasher though, but still thats on once every two days and the bill shouldn't be that much. When I spoke to the water board about the metre and the fact that I didn't want it, they said that when a new house owner moves in then it is automatic that a metre is fitted if the house didn't have one before. They want all of GB on them but can't do it to people on the old rates cos its part of your contract to stay on rates when you moved in back then. Apparently this is a new thing so be warned, if you are moving house in the near future expect your new gaff to have one fitted the day you move in. Our's was fitted the day before we moved in (unbeknown to us):xm .... kin' bastards

Knighty,

Fraid to say its your water company thats taking the piss, not your meter. By some strange coincidence I just happen to be on of seven IT contractors for Anglian Water and they have said that Three Valleys water are one of the worst. Cant remeber who was the worst, think it might have been Thames.

On a meter ourselves here and we're paying ?19 per month and as of last statement we're ?120 in credit! :yo:
