Hi all.
It's a long time since I last visited here. So I'm sorry to say, life hasn't been too good for us for a while.
Firstly, Jan had bowel cancer, which laid waste to nearly 18 months of our lives, and poor Jan is still recovering from.
Then we went to Wales for a weekend, and she fell over and broke her left hip, & left elbow. so she was out of action for another 12 weeks or so, being kept in Wales for 3 weeks, before being transferred to Worcester Royal Hospital.
After that, I went through the bereavement of my mother, which was particularly long and painful, ending with a falling out between me and my step-sister, to whom I haven't spoken to since, and consequently, I didn't even attend my own mothers funeral.
As some of you know, I have a degenerative Spinal Condition which means I cannot ride any more, which really gets me down. The downside to the condition, is that it has reduced the blood flow to my right leg, and consequently, my right Pelvis, hip joint, and femur have collapsed, making my right leg is now nearly 5" shorter than my left, and I am now awaiting a pelvis strengthening, a new hip, and reconstruction of my right femur back to its former length. That operation is scheduled on 12th March, after which I will be off my feet for some 4 weeks while my body gets used to its re-enforcment. Then physio takes over. So 2024 hasn't started that well, so we hope it improves somewhat. Especially as I have tickets for Crowded House, Foo Fighters, and Nickelbak all booked and paid for.
Hope you lot are keeping better than we are ?

Kindest wishes to you all, and safe riding,

Rolfy and Jan

That's awful, having to stay in Wales for three weeks!

2024 is already on the up, as you have made an appearence here.
There's not many on here that are still riding so you would be in good company.
Stick around it can take your mind off things.
Good to see you back.

As you know Dave I had to give up biking due to Osteoarthritis & degenerative disc disease so I can empathise, regarding your other issues health wise you have my sympathy & best wishes for a positive outcome, some will say “mend bridges with your step sister” I would normally have said the same but Bev has sort of made up with her Mother again but is starting to regret it, sometimes wounds go too deep to be plastered over & forgotten, there is no way I will ever make peace with that awful woman.
Take care pal & keep booking those gigs that you enjoy, all the best to you, Jan & family. X

I'm so sorry to hear all that Dave, you and Jan have really been through it.

I'm glad you've posted on here though, please do keep in touch with us all.

I still have brilliant memories of the "bash" you organised, also still have the "XX blackbird jacket" that I got during the charity auction - I've been keeping that quiet!

It is so good to see a post from you Dave even if it far from the best news
A lot of folk ask after you mate''

I will make you smile... remember one of the very early Thetford bashes when Jan got a sunburnt nose ?
We searched around for a plaster and the only one we could find was a kids one with dinosaurs on it !!!

To this day, when you guys come up in conversation Mo ( who has a TERRIBLE memory for names )asks the same question,, is that the lady with the dinosaur nose ?
I know who she means straight away It is one of those daft memories that will ALWAYS be there !!

Darling, you know I would love to. But sadly to say, the pain I am in now, with my pelvis being ground away by 4", as well as the top 2" of my femur gone as well is unreal. I spend most of my time high on morphine, and the rest in tears from constant pain, even when sitting or laying down.
So it looks like the end of April/early May, I'm sorry. You and Les are always welcome here though, but be aware, I am a very static person at the moment Hugs and love from Jan and myself ❤️xxxx

HI all.

well, I've been in for my rather large orthopaedic operation on 12th March. I was in for only 3 days (7am Tuesday to 7pm Thursday), then kicked out (literally lol).
I had reinforcement bars fitted to my pelvis to support my new total hip joint replacement. They increased the length of my right thighbone by 2.5" as well. Sadly my leg was 3.5" shorter. But they couldn't increase it any more, as it would make the new hip joint unstable, and prone to dislocation, so I still have to put up with a bit of a limp. Ho-Hum
Clips came out after 10 days, and the wound is doing really well, as am I. as 4 weeks later, I am off my crutches, and just using a walking stick for support. I'm in no pain at all right now. But the only discomfort I get is when I try to get in and out of the car. But even that is getting better.
Jan is looking after me just like I knew she would. She really is a keeper LOL
Love and hugs to you all.
Cheers, Rolfy and Jan
