Spotted something on one of the photo's of the toy run that reminded me of something I was taught when I was learning back in the good old days pre CBT etc.

The only safe place to park your lid is on the ground or in a top box, parking it on your seat is going to end in tears, gravity will rule.:t

Seen it happen.

No fun if ground is wet but better a damp rim than ?400 of busted Arai.

Sermon over off down the pub.:lick:

I had to pick up a work mate from the workshops where he had dropped his bike off, before he got in the van he put his new helmet on the van roof while he took his jacket off, the next time we saw it was rolling down the bonnet then across a traffic light junction, being the first one we had stopped at after leaving the workshops.
O how he laughed

Many helmet makers have warned against placing a helmet onto the mirror or any such similar spot on a bike where the inner liner is squished at any point. This can compress the impact absorbent material inside the helmet and actually make is less capable of absorbing an impact on that area of the helmet, even though the outer shell is completely uncompromised.

Might not affect many sporties out there, but to ride up to a spot and see so many beanies on top of Harley mirrors - I have to wonder if they're destroying what little protection those things have to begin with.

Also, many manufacturers will NDI (non-destructive inspection) your helmet for free if you suspect it's damaged from a fall/scrape/drop/age. Send it to them, they'll inspect, X-ray and soniscan them and tell you what they find. I've sent two to Shoei already, and verified that drops from a seat and a shelf didn't reduce their protective capacities...only their cosmetic ones. One that I know of belonging to a friend was tested and ended up being too damaged to be used again, but visually it was only suffering from minor shell-scrapes.

There are a lot of very good helmets out there (new) for a very reasonable price. No sense NOT having one.

However, gang.....remember....if you have a $10 head, buy a $10 helmet.
