"THAT" advert is from the "losers" side of the country oop north, and no self respecting Yorkshireman would say "trolleys" or :puke: "Tarquin" and you will find that people "on the other side" talked like that a "bit" before an advertising company decided to try and show "northern" folk to be "thick twats" to the southern "jessies" that are so far up their own arses as to belive it!!

So what your saying Jaws, is a confirmation of my statement above about the Yorkshiremen is probably true, :dunno:

I Question the validity of your American usage, theory, as there were considerably more yanks stationed in linconshire and "darn sarf" type places yet the expression hasnt made any impact on those "local" sayings, :dunno:

the plot thickens!!

Ah well you see that is the point Ian,, In the 50's in my part of London trolleys was commonly used.. When I moved to Norfolk in 1970 I found it in use here too...
Then there was a quite massive ( in coloquealism terms ) time gap when it reappears up around Blackpool area...

Now I spose it is well poss. that it was simply peeps from down south moving up to the area over a period of time, but this is not born out by the national sensus for the time..
Most of the UK populace was fairly static and did not start trecking around the country until the late 70's early 80's. ( Obviously there are exceptions but I am talking about big noticable numbers .. I was gonna put big noticable figures but that would have attracted all the normal comments from the usual suspects ! LOL !! )
