Car brakes

The other day I took my car to my local Halfords Autocentre to get the front pads replaced. I've noticed whilst driving it the brakes feel the same as they did when I dropped it off.

I'm sure years ago when I had my brake pads replaced the brakes always felt more grabby or is it different on newer cars :nusenuse:

Nothing to worry about…as long as they were working before!

I would have thought brakes might even be worse for a brief while until they bed.
Can you get somebody to look and see if they are actually new pads.

Take off wheel and see how thick pad is.

I knew a guy who left car for service.
He had to park it in an ackward position on the morning.
When he came back to collect in the evening it was in same position. When he went in they said it was all ready to go......

TV prog a few years ago did a set up with a car and brought it to different garages..........
Lots of things weren't done.

No you wouldn’t as brakes are self centralising and the travel will be the same.
They given they are new pads there seems now to be too much brake travel

He's going in for his MOT and service next month so if they wrong I'm sure they will tell me

After a car has been to garage I always redo wheel nuts to correct torque to make sure I can open then if I need to later. Last time, even with a long bar I couldn't. I brought it back and the mechanic had a problem loosening them.

The bar in the car is useless, it turns off the bolt as it's not at 90° to bolt.

Make your mind up…in the first post you said there was no change.

Honestly, I am beginning to not believe anything I read on this forum.

The reason for changing the pads was due to it being flagged up at it's last MOT and service.

When I drop off my car to get new brake pads I expect them to feel noticeable better with more bite and less travel and not feeling as if the pads are 70% worn

At least you didn’t post a totally random article about a donkey wearing a yellow scarf or something similar for once

It may just be temporary until the pads bed in to discs that have a bit of an uneven surface.

Bit late and not maybe what you want to hear but halfords do have a reputation for having people over and/or charging for work they either havent done, or didnt need doing. Sure there was a documentary hidden camera thing on them a couple years ago.....?

As said above, id personally whip the wheel off and check theyre actually new pads. But then again im an untrusting sort by nature anyway.....

Similar place here - I was getting puncture fixed and supervisor came over and looked and said " you need new pads on that"

I had replaced pads myself a few months before. I ignored him.

Just back from Halfords and they looked at my car and said it took time to bed in, however I think they did something to the car as driving home there was less free play on the pedal

I purchased him 6 years ago and every year he has been serviced by the Ford dealer (45 mins drive away) where I purchased him from.

A neighbour recommended a Ford garage nearby, so I gave them a ring and she wanted his I told I was sure what service he had had last time, she said as it was a Ford garage she would look it up on the Ford digital system and phone me back.

10 mins later she phoned me back and told me that apart from putting on the system the pre -delivery inspection nothing else had been added over the 6 years I've had the car making it look like I've never had him serviced.

As planning soon to get a new one anyone I was looking on line at his service record would not be impressed. Good job I've got the paperwork.

So I phoned up the garage responsible and they said they would sort it.
