Blackbirds on eBay

So if I have got it right - there is nothing wrong with blue blackbirds. The problems are with the people that ride em.

To get serious - the ebay bike im referring to is located in West Lothian and still has no bids.
Am I missing something - is there nsomething wrong with this bike?
Does anyone know the bike?
Anyone here living close enough to have a look see and report as to whether it is worth bidding on? - when the snow clears
Im living in Ireland and would hate to waste a trip.

By the way what is the story if I was the winning bidder for anything on ebay, and on collection found that the item was not as described.

If you win and the item is not as described either on the listing or in any replies to questions, you can walk away. They can still give you bad feedback but you'd have a strong case to have that removed by ebay.

The bike looks ok, think one of the problems is that he appears to be wanting to part ex only, he doesn't, but it might be putting people off.

If you look at all the other birds on there, none are going for very much. Maybe because it's winter, maybe because Xmas is coming :dunno:

Ask the guy loads of questions, one of which should be, how much is it advertised elsewhere for? That will give you an idea of his reserve.

Can't help you with the viewing though, sorry. I have seen the black one selling on a 'buy it now' for ?3100 though, if you're interested let me know.

If you want a really decent Blackbird & don't mind the colour Red, have a trip to Manchester & buy Rhino's.

No worries John

If you're not able to see it, make sure you ask as many questions as you can.

Personally I wouldn't buy without seeing, but then maybe that's just me :dunno:

I looked for months before I found mine, I got so impatient I was considering all sorts. But it worked out in the end as I found one local, in excellent condition and with the right mileage (for me!)

Good luck!

Trouble is people who buy Bluebirds don't think about what they are doing and when they realise their mistake they don't like to admit it so they stick with it, however the few that do own up to their errors put them on ebay hoping that some Welsh person will bid for it.

Good call R#? :}

He has been told the trade value is ?5800. What do ye think. There are still no bids.
If he does not get this on ebay must he sell it to the highest bidder - if he has not withdrawn it before end of auction

Once his reserve is reached he has to sell. Unless he removes it, which he can as he has stated it is advertised locally.

I would guess his reserve is (or near) that trade price, so you would have to bid that to stand a chance of buying it. Remember if you bid and match his reserve someone can come in at the last second and beat you.

Is he not up for an offer? That's how I bought mine, the start price was ?3K and 5 days after listing he had no bids, so I went to see it, offered him ?3K and after some debate we agreed on ?3050.

Remember, if he sells it through Ebay he has to pay final value fees, which on ?5800 will be a few pounds, so you could point that out to him and make him an offer. He's had very little interest, he's nowhere near his reserve (in theory) and if he sells for his reserve he's going to pay a bundle to Ebay. Good ammunition for a cash offer methinks.

Plus if you agree a deal outside of Ebay and the bike isn't what he says, or you're not happy, you can walk away and he can't give you bad feedback.

Not too keen on paying him that deposit without seeing the bike though. Maybe a smaller one, just to show good faith on your part?

Good luck, let us know what happens?

What about this one?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2003-HONDA-CBR1100-CBR-1100-BLACKBIRD_W0QQitemZ4593189283QQcategoryZ9806QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Mileage is higher but it's available for less than the other one and if you use the buy it now, no one can beat you to it.

Parkers guide lists an 03 at ?5785 for a private sale in good condition, with a part ex price of ?5480. Stealers would sell it for ?6240.

Based on that I can't see a stealer offering ?5800 for the Scottish one unless he was part exing against something worth their while.

It seems that there are more 03/04 BBs around than those on eBay. Mine is 01 with 16k - I dont think I would go for a higher mileage/newer bike or an older/lower mileage one. Nighthawk yours looks a better buy than the scottish one. Where is it advertised or can you post info here.

I haven't advertised it as I had a buyer arranged who couldn't complete the deal. It has been stuck in my garage for the last two months trapped in by loads of office furniture so I can't exactly get any decent photos of it at present 'cos the lighting is crap. The condition is as new.

It has a private plate (of which the show plate version looks brill) R4 YEN (which would be price negotiable) and a Kappa/Givi wing rack (included) but no boxes 'cos I need them for my KTM. The bike is completely standard except for a quality DB screen (I also have the original) which makes the bike more comfortable on a longer journey. The bird was purchased (new) from Doble Motorcycles in Surrey and has a Meta 357 alarm system.

I'm not that fussed on selling it but I have to be seen to make an effort because my wife's a bit p155ed at me for having too many vehicles. The bike can be viewed in South Wales. You can email me if you like -
