Well, late in the day we started off eastwards from Valais towards Andermatt in Uri. It was pouring with rain all the way, when we got to Gletsch I had the decision to go left up the Grimsel pass or right up the Furka pass. Chose left and got to the top in the midst of a blizzard. Stopped for a hot soup and roll and decided to go back down the bottom again (coward)
as we got down the barriers were being put down closing off both passes because of heavy snow. We’re now in a car park looking up at the snow covered mountains - seeing plenty of people driving up and turning round again. I spoke to a German to let him know why, then a Frenchie, impressed myself with my command of their languages, minimal but useful. Then a Swiss regd. car stopped and 2 young girls got out just as I was walking Molly, they addressed me in English as they clearly weren’t local. They wanted to get to Lucerne, and so I told them that’s not happening today go and find a hotel to stay at. Talking to them they were Thai and on holiday and caught out by the unseasonal weather.
I've got the heating on, watching satellite TV - cushty
