Back in the saddle

Well I've done it.

Went for my first ride in 8 months today.:yo:

New bike, new tyres, new leathers, new gloves, not probably the best way to do it, but hey, I've lived to tell the tale.

Must admit to being a bit apprehensive on the onset, but settled into fairly soon, Rich and Bert came along for support.

My legs still quite stiff and have a bit of a problem getting my foot onto the peg, but once its there its okay.

Went to Bassets Pole for a burger and coffee and there was much merriment when a group of other bikers who were there saw me get off and a get my folding walking stick out from under the seat and hobble off. Still, at least I'm riding again and its bloody great to back in the saddle.

All I have to do now is bang loads of more miles under my belt to get my full confidence back and get my leg working properly and hopefully I'll be ready for the summer.

Buzz.

 Well done Alan...

Just take little steps to start with mate (no pun intended),

Took me a while to get back after my off (just chest and collar bone damage) but once you get the confidence back (and the pain subsides) your life will certainly be more complete!

See you out there soon..

Thanks to everyone for their kind words and warm comments...

Until it happens to you, you really dont know how difficult it is to get back there, even though it the only thing in the world that matters to you.

The thought of of coming off again and going through all that pain and grief does make it a hard thing to do and anyone whos says different is a liar.

But, its bite the bullet and take it one step at a time, and the first ones are small ones.

I'm determined to get back there, probably wont be as fast or as brave as I was before, but that dosent matter, what does matter is getting back there and doing the thing I so much enjoy, riding.

Roll on good weather and good comapny - cheers all

Sorry Buzz, I've had my fair share of offs; some serious, some not so. But I can honestly say that it's never crossed my mind to hang up my leathers due to an off. For me, the important part is learning from an off and how it could've been avoided, be it on the road or track.
It's true to say I've moderated by road riding style & mileage in the UK (where unfortunately I think it's just too dangerous now) recently, but I just do more foreign miles and more track days to compensate.
Glad to hear that you're on the road to recovery and without wishing to sound condesending and depending on what mileage you cover, allow yourself at least a year to get your head back in gear to where you were prior to your off.
