ok, here goes nothing !!!!
i decided to have a blast up to millenium with my mate today to give the bird a good ride. one thing i can report is, no matter what you say, the avon av45/46 on THIS bike are totally shite. end of. whilst on the motorway i decided to have a bit of a play with the bird. sat at 80, knocked it down 2, brought the revs up to 5000rpm, twisted the throttle and hey presto, sat at same speed but rear span up, with the revs showing 9000 rpm. whilst this brought a huge grin to my face feeling the bird slide gently, it also made me think what if this was mid bend, power though the bend and get the same result, ?????? fooking hope not.
so then i thought maybe it is crap on the motorway, so to be fair i waited until i exited the motorway ( after riding at 80mph for the past 22 miles) and filtered through st helens. first roundabout, dropped it in, front felt great, fettled the throttle and wheeeeeey, slippy sliddy again. granted it did not go to spit me off, but if i had not backed of from what i felt was normal throttle control, then maybe i would be telling mickyb that a new fairing was required.
so to recap, a total of 53 miles travelled, at an average speed of 80 mph. throughout the whole trip, the back was still spinning up. even after a 3 mile blast at ?????? mph, i backed off, got it to 70 mph, knocked it down 1 gear, blipped the throttle and wheeeeey, grin on my face as she light up faster than a christmas tree set of lights.
so to sum it up, in my opinion i have tried to be fair in my judgement, but the AV45/46 is not really my cup of tea. of course i cannot compair it to the bridgestone bt010's it is a totally different tyre, it's not a sports tyre that much i am aware of hence the cheap price for a set. but i cannot understand how a tyre, after a good hard ride to generate heat in them, can still loose traction so easily, be it on the motorway, or a good, clean A road.
like i said before, just my opinion, freedom of speech and choice etc etc etc.
maybe this tyre comes good in better warmer conditions, ie summer. but a winter tyre, nah !!!!!
cheers lads
