Mark, it aint worth the hassle mate.. Its always where to park, insurance, fuel bills... and then you go shopping, come back and find some arse has got a ladder and keyed the side of it...

nowt but a sodding nuisance mate.. I will never buy another big airliner again :bang:

Mind you. that was a couple of years ago..
For an up to date perspective perhaps Super or Trace will let us know what it is like to own such a huge mode of transport.. I mean, he does have a Pan ! :}

Ah Baz, Vulcan bombers - you are showing your age! Mind you, I remember watching the one that did Culdrose Airday every year and apart form the awesome noise I particularly liked the way it set off everyones car alarm and to watch all the punters scrambling for the car park! Fly Navy, Sail Army Walk sideways!! LOL :neenaw:

ianrobbo1

good looking AND modest
so with this "big bus" you will have even longer to wait for your luggage to arrive on the carousel, :} and how about "checking" in?? it takes long enough on a "normal" jet 100/150 people on it etc, so how about 500/800 doing the same thing :bang:

Yes I guess no getting away with it now !! My experience of the Avro Vulcan goes back to 1976 when I was a young RAF Policeman at RAF Waddington. I used to watch in awe of them flying around and doing the almost vertical climbs over Lincolnshire, you could quite often hear them long after they had vanished from sight. Another similar in that nature was the good old English Electric Lightening, WOW, talk about a Jet with a seat on !!

Ahhhhhhh the memories :lick:

Ah Waddington, fond memories of that place.

During the first Gulf War we were doing haulage for the Yanks, and used to go into Waddington to collect 20 ton of HE (5 of us to a convoy= 100 tons)

If we overnighted at the base the yanks would collect us in a pick up (Dodge Ram i think) and take us for a drink, next day collected again and taken for breakfast, one time we sat with an AWAC crew, as they told us all about the planes etc, exiting stuff for a young trucker! Was brilliant waiting at the side of a runway watching the AWAC's take off.

Once loaded we left in convoy (Armed escorts with us) for places like newport Docks, Welford etc) We even had paperwork excempting us from British tacho laws, signed by the Goverment, was good days, we earned a lot of money, had a brilliant laugh working with the Yanks.

As it happens, I work for Airbus and have just come back from Toulouse from a presentation today for we workers which was a repeat of yesterday's for Tony Blair etc. The circus acts etc were well weird but the A380 aircraft is awesome. I can tell you that just designing it and putting it together is amazing enough, whether it flies or not. Of course, it will fly and will be a success or we'll be out of a job. However, I wouldn't like to be in the check-in queue or baggage reclaim queue for it either.

I seem to be surrounded by Crabs and ex-Crabs. Are there not any other ex-WAFUs out there? (For the benefit of you non-navy blokes, WAFU stands for Wild, Agile, Fearsome and Ultrasmooth - and dont let anyone tell you different! The smell of crabfat paste is overwhelming!!! :) As it is an Airbus does that mena we will be getting Air bus conductors - maybe to make check in easier - just get your ticket on the plane?!!
