Believe it or not the speed was not the main reason i bought a BIRD, that's not to say i don't open it up when the mood takes me, but there are a lot of nutters out there and their not just on bikes either.:neenaw:

Smix darlin, you have no idea...

Jan, I, and the rest of the German blackbird club stood next to one of those ski jumps last year... And they are so feckin high, and the dip beneath them, so low.....

The jumpers have to be insane or incredibly stupid.......

But I do have serious respect for their courage/ability:bow:

I get my fix on the bird, and thats enough for me.

Cheers,

Rolfy

I too have serious respect for them - I just have a real problem with heights and so flying!!! Broke my back doing a parachute jump a few years ago:cry: , so that sort of thing is far more scary than stupid stuff on the ground!!! Would love to have a go on the tea tray/ice chute thing!!! But that doesn't involve heights!!:neenaw:

Remember Eddie the Eagle Edwards? everybody laughing at him, calling him a joke, but I wonder how many of those that laughed at him would have the bottle to do what he did, & to me he epitomised what the spirit of the Olympic games should be about ie performing to the best of your abilities.

He was a serious star - and loonatic! :yo: the other thing people forget is that the Brits get very little financial or other kinds of help to do these sports. The snow boarders were commenting on the fact that the Yanks had trainers and physios and people to get their boards fixed up!!

And then there are the amazing people like the guy from somehwere hot (can't remember, my geography is rubbish) Who is competing in the downhill skiing!!!! Amazing. All of them!

I would'nt mind having a go at the snowboarding (probably comes from my skateboarding days) but there's no way i'd have the bottle to do a ski jump.

Apparently part of the reason they built the exscape at Castleford is they are hoping they can groom some future ski champions.

I think it's going to take a bit more than a "glorified" slope or two to make a difference most of the kids going there just use ski boards, as there isn't enough room for proper ski's!! they have 16 coke machines in there that are filled every other day though!! shame I don't still deliver there!! :bang:

I'd definately recomend snowboarding to anyone.

It's the most fun you can possibly have while not on two wheels and fully clothed.
Not much into the jumping though nearly done myself an injury trying out a couple of ramps they used for the freestyle competitions at the Nevis Range a couple of years back. But you can get to scary speeds, just need to look out for the slower skiers zig zaggiing in front of you when you've no brakes.
Looking forward to it when I get home in a couple of weeks.

Borrox! They only thing a snowboarder is any good for is flattening out moguls, assuming they are not sitting on their ar5es in the middle of the piste :wank: .

As for slow, have you seen the lunatics that do the speed ski thing. 150+ MPH on the 'Bird and in leathers etc is one thing but on a couple of planks and in lycra is totally barking.
