Going to work this morning, temporary traffic lights at the end of my road where I turn right, signs stating road works. no sign of any road works.

Came off the M1 at Jct 39 and travelled on Denby Dale road just passing Clarence park and there are several sections of road with the top layer of tarmac missing leaving it all ridged & bumpy.

Coming home at tea time I thought, "I'll travel the scenic route along the A61 Barnsley road & miss out all the road works"

F*cking road works for about a mile past Newmillerdam same thing top layer of road missing. :bang:

Similar here - must be that time of year again. And from next monday, the main route to work is closed for ELEVEN WEEKS!!!!!! and all other (sensible) routes have roadworks. :bang: Only way to avoid them is double the length of the journey - guess I'll be sitting at the road works!!!!!!!!!!!c7u8:bang:

I think I would rather go the long way round rather than get caught up in road works.

Kind of agree, but it is 20 miles the direct route  - haven't worked out the long route mileage!!! Maybe I should stop being a wuss and start commuting on the bird again! :dunno:

Got no problem with roads being fixed (or walls rebuilt in the case of the A37 or is it the 39?) but why do they do it all at the same time? :bang: They seem to save all of the work up for this time ofyear - can't they spread the work out over the whole winter??:dunno:

Whats the show like then????? :neenaw:
Was ok, nothing out of this world. I was in and out in 2 hrs. Biggest bind this year is that the bike park was on the top car park near the main transmitter site so lots of those with alarms couldnt remobilise the bikes until they pushed them 1/2 mile down the road !!!!!!

I was ok but for some reason my mate on his Pan had to roll down a hill for 10 mins to get out of line of sight of the mast.

To be honest I only really go to the shows to meet up with mates that I havent seen in a while.

Bought some nice winter gloves tho and tasty shades to match my Roof Helmet.

If a road needs mending then fine fix it, but the sections of road that they are disrupting are perfectly good and there are certainly other roads in more need of repair.
I think it is a case of using up what's left of last years budget so they can get this years.

Think you have it in one Derek.....

There's two ways of working up a budget.
1. Do it from scratch each year working up from all the costs etc to a final requirement.

2. Start with last year's fugure and "adjust" as required.

Most companies I work with use method 1 as it'd thought to be more rigourous, avoids errors carrying over year to year and is thought to produce greater transparency.

Second method is the easy option but for it to accepted each year you must make sure you do actually use up all you're budget. Then you try and argue the case for an increase.

Wonder which method most councils might use then??

One of the roads round here had a huge queue due to road wortks traffic lights (but no roads works) one evening last week on the way home, even bigger problems in the morning with roads blocked etc. Guess what - apart from the lights no actual signs of any road works in progress. Lights gone by that evening - still no evidence of any work having been done....

If they are like the Prisons, it will be scrimp & save all year, operating well below agreed manning levels, then dump perfectly good gear & replace it with brand new with what is left of the budget
