Just returned from a weekend in Wales - camping with the family;

Saw many bikes (including one nutcase on a Gixxer, in JEANS  absolutley whoofing past us!) and oodles of BB's.....

.....but what got me, was just how awesome the roads were (for bikes).

Gill got so pi$$ed off with me saying every 5 minutes, "These roads are made for bikes...." or "if only we were on the Bird!"

We stayed at the Brecon Beacons, camping in the shadow of the black mountains.....fantastic countryside.

I think a summer visit is defineatley on the cards.....

...I did (stupidly) wave at a few Blackbirds, so if you saw a blue Ford Galaxy (with two mountain bikes strapped to the back), with a sungalssed deigo driver waving at you, then that was me!!!!

stan the man

you are not capable
glad you enjoyed our fine roads nosh :lick: .....now you know why wales is gods country :yo: .as for a summer visit,....the welsh week-end on the 6th-7th august is just the one your looking for ...........

Nosher, try the Elan Valley (Rhayader). Carry on through to Aberystyth via Devil's Bridge then return through Tregaron, Llyn Brianne, Devil's Staircase, Abergwesyn. Not too far north of the Beacons, but even better!

If you want a guide, get in touch, it wll give us another excuse to go home for a while.

It's the untouched 'bit in the middle' of the Sheepfest 2005 itinerary.

Stan -I realise it would be a bad idea to take a big group on that route, besides, too many would want to stay and we'd end up all split up, with lots of lost Saesnegs on Birds!

Glad you like the country...
Back in the 60's the regular rig for a Rocker was ankle length boots, jeans, leather jacket with loads of metal badges, a jet helmet, gloves and if you had reached the heady heights of breaking the 'Ton' a silk scarf, So why do you consider this guy to be a 'nutcase', I find riding my bike far less restrictive when I'm not 'armoured up' and one of the things that slowed us up in the past when it were raining was the fact ya couldnt feckin see... so the guy that past you may not have been a nutter he was just enjoying the freedom of his bike

The country WAS very nice.

As for the 'nutter' pigeon hole I so firmed placed the gixxer rider in, he actually passed us, following 4 motorcycles and then proceeded to overtake THEM (the 4 riders) at speed, with his jeans flaping madly on corners where I thought, "oohh.....this might sting". Howling engine, passing me at about 100mph (I was doing 45 mph ish) with what seemed to be little, if not no protection on...

...and this was a road where you had to go over a cattle grid. Cattle grid=loose sheep - loads of the little blighters, around every corner and some on the bloody road ffs!!

Nutter? IMHO, yes...

I have tried to ride with jeans etc.. but I find I am more concious of the lack of protection, espically since my 25mph, collarbone shattering, rib fracturing fall I had on a roundabout (fecking diesel).

I bought a two peice AP suit and found that a relevation - all the armour you want, but with enough movement that it almost ceases to be a hinderance.....

I Think once it gets to ton plus speed on roads like that with rock, signs, trees and sheer drops on the sides - It's gonna be pretty academic whether or not your wearing leathers or protective trousers. I ride with jeans most of the time - unless it's cold

The leathers keep all the bits together so they can slide into a bodybag much easier. :violin:
