So he worked for them for 30 years then decides to blow the whistle after he retired!
He wasnt really that bothered about safety then was he!
He was only a QM for the last 7 years of his career and it was during that period that he reported issues on a variety of quality concerns. From what I've read, on each occasion Boeing appeared to have sidestepped or avoided addressing these issues. He was demoted and transferred on separate occasions for raising his concerns.
Apparently his doctor advised him at one point to retire before the stress caused him a heart attack.
Whistle blowing isn't an easy decision to make.... it paints a nice big target on your back and is pretty much a career killer in most companies and generally isn't conducive to future employment prospects within the same industry. I've experienced that and so has SWMBO when she worked in the NHS.
