£52k!!!!!
List price was £52,300, I paid just over £40k. If you read my post carefully, you'd have noticed that I said that's what hte car cost, not what I paid
You miss the point, regardless of kids/Grandkids I could go out today & come back with a brand new Jag/BMW/Merc etc & as stated I have been tempted (not by the BMW) but saw sense before I got carried away, even if you are spending silly money on a car why buy brand new? Why not pre-registered? Same car & much of the financial loss has been dealt with, a car is a mode of transport with a purpose of getting from a to b but many people use it as a status symbol, I am actually considering getting a Dacia Logan as my next car, if I can fit three child seats in the back then it’s good enough for me.
You spent £52 on your car & another £3000 on top of your usual tax what is that car worth now? (You don’t need to answer that, you know the answer) my wife’s panda has more gadgets than a friend’s Porsche yet his Porsche cost nearly ten times what we paid for her newer panda.
Your money, your choice but I have better things to invest my money in.
Another one who didn't read my post properly
Aside from that, I got your point but you didn't get mine. It's about choice and priorities. I like to have the car that I do because that's my choice. I don't have the responsibilities, vices and responsibilities of some people so I have the luxury (?) of being able to make that choice. I don't drink to speak of (never in the week, maybe a glass of red with Sunday dinner once a month, birthday and when we're on holiday), don't smoke, don't take drugs, don't gamble, don't do scruffy women, don't have kids and we both work full time.
As for brand new v nearly new, I go new every time because there is much more room for negotiation on new. Salesmen are driven by new car sales, which is why there are so many nearly new around when it comes to the time of the new reg. I also like to choose my colour and spec, etc. Put it this way, I paid less for my 335d than the windscreen price of a three month old 330d with 3k on the clock at the same dealership. Nearly new doesn't always work.
I agree that a Dacia Dishrag will do the same job as my BM, no arguments here. But I'm spending two hours a day on my commute so I want to be in a ride that I want to be in, not just one that is fit for purpose.
My bestie bought a Porsche Macan S last month. Him and his wife had twins last May. She had an A3 and he had an SQ5 but the kids buggies wouldn't fit in the A3 and would only fit in the SQ5 with nothing else in the boot. With two baby seats in the back, he has to pull his driver's seat forward a couple of notches, which makes him uncomfortable. So what does he do? Bins the A3 and buys the Macan S, which is smaller in all areas than the SQ5, and keeps the SQ5 for his wife. Now that, my friends, is a whole new mountain of stupidity.
